Fox News Channel (FNC), commonly referred to as Fox or Fox News, is a cable and satellite news channel owned by the Fox Entertainment Group, a subsidiary of News Corporation. As of April 2009, it is available to 102 million households in the United States and further to viewers internationally, broadcasting primarily out of its New York City studios.
The channel was created by Australian-American media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who hired Roger Ailes as its founding CEO. The channel was launched on October 7, 1996 to 17 million cable subscribers. The network slowly rose to prominence in the late 1990s. In terms of regular viewers (Nielsen ratings), Fox News rates as the United States’ most watched cable news network, ahead of CNN and MSNBC.
Many observers have asserted that both Fox’s news reporting and its political commentary promote conservative political positions. Fox News Channel denies any bias in its news reporting and maintains that its political commentary and news reporting operate independently of each other.

MSNBC is a cable news channel based in the United States and available in both the US and Canada. Its name is a combination of “Microsoft” and “NBC”.
Msnbc.com, a separate company, is the news website for the NBC News family, featuring interactivity and multimedia plus original stories and video which augment the content from NBC News and partners.
Two partnerships with the names MSNBC and msnbc.com were founded in 1996 by Microsoft and General Electric’s NBC unit, which is now NBC Universal. Although Microsoft and NBC shared operations of MSNBC cable at its founding, it was announced on December 23, 2005, that NBC Universal would purchase a majority stake in the television network, which left Microsoft with 18%. The two companies remain partners in msnbc.com. MSNBC shares the NBC logo of a rainbow peacock with its sister channels NBC, CNBC and ShopNBC. MSNBC, like all of its cable competitors, is available in over 78 million households in the United States; and between June 2008 and May 2009, msnbc.com had the most unique visitors among global news and current events websites.
Many observers of the network say that MSNBC has become increasingly biased towards the politically liberal side compared with other networks, particularly in its prime-time lineup.

Sky1 started on April 26, 1982 as Super Station Europe, a consortium set up by Brian Hayes, formerly controller of Thames Television, and it was originally broadcast from the Orbital Test Satellite aimed to cable operators all over Europe; Norway and Finland being the first two countries to permit the new service’s transmission via cable. (Malta and Switzerland were the next two countries to legalise cable transmission of the service).
However, at first the station struggled financially, and by the second half of 1983, the station’s ex-ITV management realised that they “could not capture Europe on the budget of Border Television”, and put up the majority of the station’s shares for sale. It would be Rupert Murdoch (through his News International conglomerate), eager to make his definitive breakthrough into UK TV, that would buy the shares for the symbolic price of £1. Shortly afterwards, Murdoch would buy the remaining shares, owning 100% of the company.
Murdoch and the new management he put in charge of the channel changed the channel’s programming mix greatly, and in January 1984 renamed the channel Sky Channel. The channel produced a number of home grown programmes, including Sky Trax which covered European music, and children’s programmes like Fun Factory and The DJ Kat Show. Also, the new management adopted a more aggressive policy to reach an increasing number of cable households throughout Europe. In the UK, the first cable system to incorporate it was Swindon Cable, shortly after its relaunch.

ABC News programming is shown daily on the 24-hour news network Orbit News in Europe and the Middle East. This includes several shows from ABC News. ‘Orbit News is network of three 24 hour satellite and cable channels offering exclusivly American news programming from ABC, NBC, PBS, and MSNBC to U.S. expats and other viewers abroad, primarily geared towards an audience in the Arab countries. The network is available on digital satellite and cable in Europe, Middle East and North Africa, however, cable operators in Europe are currently unable to carry the channels due to unsolved rights issues.
It is also available online at ABC News Now.
In the United Kingdom, ABC World News appears regularly at 1:30 a.m. local time on the BBC News Channel, which itself may be simulcast on BBC One or BBC Two during the overnight period. No commercials are presented because the BBC’s services in the U.K. are financed through license fees. ABC and the BBC also share video segments and reporters as needed in producing their newscasts.
In Australia, ABC World News is broadcast at 10:30 a.m. daily and Nightline is telecast at 1:30 a.m. daily on Sky News Australia. In Australia, this can be confusing, because there, “ABC News” means the news broadcasts of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Also, Primetime is broadcast at 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays (extended edition) and at 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays. 20/20 is broadcast at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays (extended edition) and on Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m.
In New Zealand, ABC World News is broadcast daily at 5:10 p.m. and at again at 11:35 p.m. Just as with the BBC in the U.K., these are shown commercial-free on Television New Zealand’s TVNZ channel.
